Kacalj Viewpoint (Gradina) – A Natural Balcony Above Kakanj
Just a thirty-minute walk along a well-trodden trail from the direction of Zagrađe lies a hilltop known to locals as Kacalj, while more and more residents of Kakanj recognize it simply as – the Viewpoint. Located at the summit of Gradina, this spot offers one of the most beautiful panoramic views of Kakanj and its surroundings. The breathtaking scenery of villages, valleys, and mountains leaves a lasting impression on everyone who decides to make the climb.
The viewpoint can also be reached via a more demanding route through Ivnica and Skenderovići, ideal for those who enjoy hiking challenges and more adventurous terrain. Another beautiful trail begins at the Bočica Mountain Lodge — although longer, it rewards visitors with an unforgettable experience of nature and landscape.
According to local tradition, this site served as an outpost of the royal medieval town of Bobovac during the Middle Ages. This belief is supported by the nearby remains of a medieval stećak necropolis (the Ivnica–Zagrađe Necropolis), as well as traces of an old church in Skenderovići, where stone remnants of the structure are still visible today.
